How to Get to Cape Sounion from Athens by Public Transport

I visited the Temple of Poseidon on my own. It was really easy and cheap plus I didn’t have to worry about a given limited time and wandered freely on my own. The sacred temple which is located 70 km south from Athens was totally worth it! Standing in front of the temple which offers great views of the Aegean Sea was just surreal!
I left my apartment at 6:25 am to catch the 6:39 am Metro Line 1 at Monastiraki Station and got off at Victoria Station. I have to say that I really love Google maps because of its reliable and accurate information! From Victoria Station, I walked to the bus station located at Mavromateon St., Areos Park - cor Leoforos Alexandras & 28 Οκτωβριου-Patision Pedion Areos. The travel time from Athens to Cape Sounion was around 2 hours and 30 minutes. I made sure I was at the terminal early to get a seat on the right side of the bus to fully enjoy the beautiful coastal views. I took the first bus which left at 7:05 am. From my experience, it was really difficult to enjoy a view with a crowd that was why I wanted to be there as early as I can, basically to avoid them. I arrived at Cape Sounion at 9:30 am, went straight to the entrance gate, paid the 8 euros admission fee and started to wander around the picturesque temple ground. According to the legend, Cape Sounion is the spot where King of Athens, Aegeus, jumped off the cliff upon learning his son’s death. I sat on a bench for a few minutes while looking at the temple and the Aegean Sea. After feasting my eyes on the lovely view and after taking as much photos and selfies as I can, I went to a café nearby to have a cup of coffee and to admire the temple from afar. The Temple of Poseidon is indeed one of the most spectacular temples in Greece, not only because of its rich ancient Greek history but because of its incredible location too.
I didn’t spend a lot of time in Sounion. At exactly 11:00 am, I was already sitting comfortably on the bus. It was again another long and scenic journey going back to Athens.
