DIY Project : Rustic Wood Sign

What You Need:

  • 40 cm x 12 cm wood
  • Hand saw
  • Sanding block
  • Water-based paint (black and white)
  • Petroleum Jelly
  • Paint brush (1 cm and 5 cm)
  • Letter cutouts (EAT)
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Old face towel
Instructions :
  • Cut the wood to your desired dimension using a hand saw. Mine's 20 cm x 12 cm.
  • Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the edges of the wood where you want the distressed look.
  • Paint the wood white using the 5 cm brush. You would notice that the paint would not want to adhere over the edges where you applied the petroleum jelly.
  • Allow the paint to dry slightly and then use an old face towel to rub over the areas where you applied the petroleum jelly. This paint would wipe away easily.
  • When the paint is totally dried, trace the paper cutouts on the wood using a pencil.
  • Use the 1 cm paint brush to paint the lettering using a black paint.
  • Let it dry completely and slightly distress the wood using a sanding block.
